Job description and job specification are the products of the job analysis. But both are not the same; they are different from each other. Job—description is the summary of the duties, responsibilities and other characteristics of the job whereas job specification is a statement of qualities of the persons who handles the job. Former measures the job and the latter measures the person handling the job.

Job specification assists the management in selecting a match for the job while job description assists the job incumbent to understand the requirements of the job which are to be fulfilled by him.
