Causes of labour turnover—The causes of labour turnover are numerous and may be classified into two types:

(a) Natural or Unavoidable

(b) Avoidable.

(a) Natural or Unavoidable causes

The unavoidable causes of labour turnover include those causes which do not arise from the initiative of management. Such causes are not due to the fault of management but due to the other factors which are not under its control such causes may be :

(i) Personal betterment

(ii) Domestic affairs like marriage, pregnancy in case of a female employees etc.

(iii) Illness, accident etc.

(iv) Departure from the locality.

(v) Unsuitable for job or misconduct on his part.

(vi) Housing or transport problem

(vii) Retirement, death etc.

(b) Avoidable causes

Avoidable causes are due to the personnel policy of the establishment. Such causes may be :

(1) Low wages and allowances in comparison to other factories.

(2) Unsatisfactory working conditions, e.g., bad environment, inadequate ventilation.

(3) Job dissatisfaction on account of wrong placement of workers.

(4) Lack of accommodation, medical, transport and recreational facilities.

(5) Long hours of works.

(6) Lack of promotion opportunities.

(7) Unfair methods of promotion.

(8) Lack of security of employment.

(9) Lack of proper training facilities.

(10) Unsympathetic attitude of the management.
