Tips for solving comprehension passages :
(i) Read the passage thoroughly. The reading should be quick.
(ii) Focus on the relevant details and underline them with a pen or a pencil.
(iii) Read the questions carefully and go back to the passage to find the answers.
(iv) The answers are generally in a logical sequence.
(v) Try to write the answer in your own words.
(vi) To find answer to the vocabulary based questions like synonyms etc., replace the word with the meaning. If you find that it is the same in meaning, the answer is correct.
(vii) To find the correct option in Multiple Choice Questions, go through all the options. Re-read the passage andthen tick the correct option.
Types of Descriptive Writing :
• Descriptions of People or Places : These portray the physical appearance of a person or place and show readers why the subject is important or special.
• Describing a place : Writing a descriptive essay about a place you have visited gives you the opportunity to convey a personal perspective or feeling about the subject location.
• Describing a Person : What you choose to describe depends on you topic and purpose.
* When describing a person, you are not obliged to describe every single detail about the person’s appearance.
* Sometimes it is better to focus on one or two outstanding features that convey something about the person’s character.
• Descriptions of Event : Describe an event the writer has witnessed.
• Introduction : Include something interesting and why this event is important/fun to go to.
• Description of location, time, date.
• Describe the activities that happened.
• Conclusion : Summarize why this event was worth attending and what you especially enjoyed.
• Diary Entry : Writing a brief account of what occurs in writer’s life, either a specific moment or a longer period as his personal memoir to provide some glimpses of the past incidents in future life.
