I am a student of 1st PUC (PCMB) and very interested in space science. Could you please give details about its scope?

You have varied options to be in Space Science/Technology. Space Science activities relate to four disciplines viz. Astronomy and Astrophysics, Atmospheric Science, Earth Sciences and Solar System Studies. In order to enable you to take up a career in Space Science, Space Technology or Space Applications, study of science subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry at undergraduate level is necessary. Several Indian universities and other institutions offer graduate/RG/doctorate courses in the disciplines of relevance to Space Science/Space Technology and Space Applications. Scientists/Engineers are recruited with M.Sc/B.E/ME or PhD depending upon the specific recruitments of each job.
You must have plus two with science subjects. If you want to go to engineering, you should take up IIT-JEE examination to be eligible for admission to IITs, Regional Engineering College entrance examination for admission to Regional Engineering Colleges, AIEEE conducted by CBSE, Delhi for admission to certain Deemed Universities, Central Institutions and Institutions in the States/UTs apart from Karnataka CET.
But Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering is offered only at IITs, Mumbai, Kanpur, Chennai and Kharagpur and BE in AE at Madras Institute of Technology, Chennai and Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh. If Karthik and Neeraj want to enter Space Research through Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering they have to enter through IIT-JEE examination and then can take up PG courses also. Otherwise other disciplines like Chemical Engineering, Atmospheric Sciences, Civil Engineering, Computer, Control Systems, and Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering
Metallurgical Engineering, Remote Systems, Structure Engineering, Telecommunication etc., are also eligible to go for Space Science/ Technology careers.
To take up from graduation level, after plus two you can apply for either integrated M.Sc again at IITs and then take up Research. If not, you can do B.Sc and then take up either M.Sc or integrated PhD with specializations in Astrophysics/Astronomy/any disciplines relevance to Space Technology. Pune University offers M.Sc course in Space Science eligibility for which is B.Sc degree in any branch. Besides, Gujarat University, Ahamedabad - 380009 conducts a one-year post graduate diploma course in Space Sciences and their applications. Astrophysics Science (Meteorology) in collaboration with Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) and Space Application Centre (SAC, ISRO), Ahamedabad. Minimum qualification for admission being first or high second class in M.Sc (Physics) or BE/B.Tech with good background of electronics. Andhra University also offers a diploma course in Space Science after your masters.
Karthik and Chethan, if you posses one of the above qualifications, you will be eligible to Join ISRO depending on your efficiency and capability. After 1st class M.Sc in Physics, Atmospheric Sciences, Physical Oceanography, Geophysics, Applied Geology, Oceanography, M.Tech/M.Sc in Remote Sensing etc, ISRO, Space Application Centre, Ahamedabad offers Junior Research Fellowships.
