According to Harrell "fatigue or activity decrement, means a reduced capacity for further work as a consequence of previous activity where a person was trying almost as hard as he could."
It is common experience that when we do any work involving the use of muscles and energy, our ability to continue with it gets reduced after a certain time. As the energy is spent, the muscles become less and less able to perform the job. This happens because of the reduction in the substances which supply potential energy and the accumulation of waste product in the muscles as a result of continuous activity. The tiredness of muscles and the body adversely affects the efficiency of the mind and the general feeling of the worker. When a person applies himself to work continuously, he feels tiredness and reduced efficiency and dissatisfaction.
