Closely connected with the question of fatigue is that of monotony which has been defined 'as a varying uniformity'. Monotony means dislike of work mainly due to repetition of work. One became uninterested or 'bored' and in other ways manifests a lessening desire to continue the performance, or one may simply have feeling of tiredness accompanied by a desire lo do something else for a change. It is monotony. Thus monotony is not an element of job but it is a relationship of job and mind at a particular time.
Monotony and Boredom are so closely related and generally used in the same sense, that some psychologists treat them as being the same. The distinction between the two rests on the point that while monotony does not involve any emotional dislike of work, Boredom does. Boredom is linked with an emotional distaste of work. We use these words in the same sense.
