Of the 44 deemed varsities, 36 were set up over the past five years

UGC records show that most of these 36 were set up since 2008 and a majority of their students were admitted when the institutions were colleges affiliated to a university.

students admitted till the notification must be awarded degrees by the university to which the institute was till then affiliated.

All students who joined these institutions before they were declared deemed universities continue to automatically remain eligible for degrees — irrespective of the fate of their institutions.

Students who joined the 44 blacklisted deemed universities after their institutions earned the deemed tag may need to prove their academic potential afresh before they are eligible for degrees from recognised state or central universities.

The students started protesting about the Govt. decision to abolish the deemed university status to 44 institutions. Protests in TN turned violent.

More than 3000 students of Vinayaka Mission university, which is set to lose their deemed university status, blocked vehicular traffic and stoned buses,

Students of Ponniah Ramajeyam (PRIST) University at Thanjavur, which will also be affected by the Centre's decision, too blocked roads, pelted stones and damaged college property

Private varsities in Tamil Nadu appealed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and HRD ministry to find a solution and offered to hold talks with the government.

They argue the Prof P N Tandon Committee report, which the Centre has cited in the Supreme Court to derecognise the varsities, was based on 10 minute presentations by management representatives, whereas the UGC panel had spent three days to inspect the institutions before recommending deemed university status.

Somehow the politicians want to make money... most of the deemed universities have political connections.. they all are worried about money. not the students future..

Property dealers, politicians and their kith and kin were often beneficiaries of the policy of wholesale merchandising of education
pursued by the UPA-I government and recommended to be scrapped by the UPA II.

Here are the Big Guns behind the DOOMED UNIVERSITIES

Bharath University - S Jagathrakshakan (minister of state for information in the present government)

D Y Patil University, Tripura - D Y Patil (Tripura governor )

Manav Rachna International University - OP Bhalla ( a property dealer )

Maharishi Markandeshwar University - Tarsem Kumar Garg (Another property dealer )

St Peter’s University - M Thambidurai, (Former Tamil Nadu education minister and ADMK MP )

Dr MGR University - A C Shanmugham (DMK leader and former MP)

Periyar Maniammai University - K Veeramani (leader of the Dravidar Kazhagam)

Vel’s University - Ishari K Ganesh, (son of late Isari Velan, minister in the M G Ramachandran government)

Chettinad Academy of Research and Education - MAM Ramaswamy (Rajya Sabha MP from the JD(S) )

Devraj Urs Academy of Higher Education and Research - R L Jalappa. (Former Congress MP and minister in the United Front government )

BLDE University - MB Patil (former Congress MP and currently Babaleshwar MLA )

Santosh University Ghaziabad - Dr P Mahalingam (was personal physician to BSP founder Kanshi Ram. )

10 of the 13 deemed universities in Tamil Nadu are owned or have linkages with DMK — an outcome of the party’s consistent participation in the central government for the last decade.

when these illiterate greedy politicians and property dealers are mugging up our future, come and protest.. boycott these institutions..

Government now says these universities are not up to the mark,, but was pampering all of them till now with crores of Rs. as university grants..

The biggest beneficiary was Hardwar’s Gurukula Kangri Vishwavidyalayathat received Rs 47 crore in the last five years from the University Grants Commission (UGC)

Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth, Pune (Its vice-chancellor Deepak J Tilak’s son Rohit got a Congress ticket from Pune’s Kasba Peth constituency in last October’s assembly polls) got a total grant of Rs3.02 crore between financial years 2006 and 2010

Udaipur’s Rajasthan Vidyapeeth (says senior Congress leader Karan Singh among its former chancellors) got 3 crore during the 10th plan.

More figures from other universities are expected soon..

They SPINNED OF MONEY and CRASHED OUR DREAMS ..... Come ON....

Karnataka government has come to the rescue of six deemed universities, which have been derecognized by the Centre. The higher education department is ready to grant autonomous status to Christ University, Jain University, Sri Devaraj Urs Academy of Higher Education and Research, Yenepoya University, BLDE University and Sri Siddartha Academy of Higher Education.

“They are not sub-standard colleges to be derecognized. We are ready to grant them autonomy or private university status. A committee will look into the matter,’’ Education Minister Arvind Limbavali said

There is no such black listing of the Universities. the case is still in the court of the law. The Supreme court has maintaind the status quo of the Universities. The media has exhagrated the case to black listing of universities.

The MHRD has given a permission for a deemed to be university, only after the joint inspection report from UGC, AICTE was filed with them. The exact details of the case are available on UGC, AICTE, MHRD and Supreme court of India web sites.
