The School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at UK’s Loughborough University is offering BSc in Sports Technology course. Ranked 1st in the UK for Sport Science by the Times Good University Guide 2013, the university maintains an outstanding reputation for both Sport Science and Engineering and has developed a collaboration of various disciplines required to deliver a course in Sports Technology.

The three year course has been devised for students who wish to pursue a career in the expanding sports-related industry. The curriculum covers all the major themes focusing on sports equipment and facilities such as the design of sports equipment, use of materials in equipment design, methods of manufacture, the role of computer aided design, ergonomic aspects in sports equipment design, biomechanics, sports physiology, evaluation and testing of sports equipment and business studies for the sports industry. The first two years of the course concentrate on building a foundation of technology theory which is then applied in a wide range of laboratory sessions. The final academic year is structured around a comprehensive research-style individual project, several core modules including the Sports Equipment Industry and Product Design, together with a selection of additional optional subjects.

The students also have the option of choosing a 4 year sandwich course wherein they have the opportunity to pursue a full year of assessed industrial training between the 2nd and 3rd years of academic studies, leading to the additional award of a Diploma in Industrial Studies (DIS). The Sports Technology degree programme at Loughborough University is at the heart of an exciting £15 million state-of-the-art Sports Technology Institute, created by the University, in partnership with Government funding, making it the largest university based facility in the world.

Students with over 80% overall score in Class 12 are eligible for the course. The University also offers scholarship to the value of 25% of the programme tuition fee for international students applying for the course. The school also grants competitive scholarships on the basis of intake qualifications as well as the progress through the first year of any of the degree courses. This is a good course started by Loughborough University. There are very few universities which offer such courses related to sports industry. This programme will definitely encourage aspirants who want to pursue a career in sports industry.
