I n order to fi nd happiness in work, it is important to identify your work values and work preferences. The chances for greater happiness increase when your preferences and values are aligned with your work. Work values are tendencies or inclinations that are intrinsic aspects of your work environment or requirements that are inherently important to you (e.g., autonomy, opportunities for leadership, an environmentally conscious company, etc.). Work preferences are what you experience as satisfying work conditions, and include preferred external factors or conditions in the physical environment of your work setting (e.g., a window in your offi ce, personal temperature control, availability of personal technology, etc.).
