A career in the film and TV industry is good choice if you have a creative bent of mind and are outgoing and willing to work long and awkward hours. So be sure about your aptitude and talent.
The Film and TV industry offers a plethora of opportunities if you are ready to slog day and night. It is a vast field and before proceeding, you should have an idea with regard to the various job areas like Producer, Production Assistants, Script Writer, Sound Technician, Presenter and Announcer, Researcher, Director, and so on and so forth.
The education imparted in film and television covers more of the art and science of film making rather than acting. There are three premier institutions which offer training programmes:
*Film and Television Institute of India, Law College Road, Pune -411004
*Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, Eastern Metropolitan Bye Pass Road, Panchasaya, Calcutta - 700094
*Film and T.V Institute of Tamil Nadu, Chennai-600113.
Besides, the Jadavpur University (Calcutta - 700032) offers an MA(Film Studies) course The Mysore University offers diploma courses in film acting and film direction open to 10+2 pass candidates. So also the Film Institute at Hesaraghatta coming under the Director of Technical Education also offers diploma in Cinematography and
Sound Engineering for 10+2 with PCM candidates. They also offer many short term courses for SSLC/plus two candidates. Almost all the courses offered by Film and T.V Institute of India, Pune and SatyajitRay Film and Television Institute, Calcutta are after graduation and only few courses offered by Film and T.V Institute of Tamil Nadu are open for plus two candidates.
You should take up either a diploma of Mysore University or take up graduation preferably with music/drama/dance (choreography) and then take up the PG courses at any of the above institutes. An other option is to take up M.Sc Electronic Media after graduation with minimum of 50% marks which is offered atBangaloreUniversityPrasanna Kumar Block, University Campus, Palace Road, Bangalore-560001.
