Geologists can find a job in mining companies, oil and gas exploration companies, civil engineering firms, natural resource companies, environmental consulting companies, government agencies, non-profit organizations, universities, construction firms and the government. The job prospects for those in the environmental field (engineering geology, surface processes, hydrogeology, etc.) are growing rapidly.

Potential employers include Tata Consultancy Services, Reliance, Western Geco-Schlumberger, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), etc. Geologists can also work with institutions like the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the Department of Science and Technology. The Union Public Service Commission conducts the Geologists. Examination for recruitment in the Geological Survey of lndia (GST) and the Central) Ground Water Board.
