There are numerous institutes providing diploma, graduate and postgraduate level courses in nursing and midwifery. Some of the prominent courses that can be pursued include B.Sc course in nursing, which provides basic knowledge about nursing, first-aid and midwifery. The nurses are also trained in all the theoretical as well as practical aspects of nursing. The M.Sc course in nursing is a postgraduate level program, open only to those who have done their bachelors in nursing.
The General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) program prepares general nurses, who function as members of the health team, to hold first-level positions in both the hospitals and other such places. And the Auxiliary Nurse Midwife/Health Worker (ANM) course provides training as to how to take care of health related needs of the people living in rural areas, especially children, mothers and old persons.
The curriculum for these courses covers biology, microbiology, anatomy, psychology, sociology, first aid, nutrition and computer education.
