(1) Universal Process—Management is an universal process which is applied in every type of
institutions—social, religious, commercial, political etc. Every organisation and institution whose object
is to achieve its objectives and goals through group efforts, needs planning, coordination, direction and
control i.e., management.

(2) An Integrative Process—The essence of management is integration of human and physical
resources in a manner that it leads to effective performance. Managers apply knowledge, experience
and principles for getting the results. Management seeks to harmonise the individual goals with
organisational goals.

(3) Dynamic function—Management is a dynamic function of business organisation. Its
(management) functions change from time to time depending upon the circumstances of the business
i.e., changes in economic, social, political, technological and human conditions. Management adjusts
himself to change atmosphere. Manager makes suitable forecasts and makes suitable changes in the
policies.

(4) Social process—Management is a social process as it primarily deals with human. Human beings
are emotional, dynamic and sensitive. Management has to work with all sorts of people and has to win
their confidence and cooperation. Therefore, the principles of management cannot be definite.
Management principles are constantly influenced by social traditions, customs and regulations.

(5) Management makes things happen-Managerial ability is distinct from technical ability.
Management is the art of getting things done through people. Managerial ability is not only in born
ability. It can be acquired also. Due to this, management a profession now-a-days.

(6) Management is multi-disciplinary discipline-Management has to deal with resources which are
heterogeneous. Their performance depends upon the proper knowledge and skill of various disciplines.
Management has grown as a body of discipline taking the help of so many social sciences like—
Anthropology, Sociology, Psychology etc. Due to this management is known as "Behavioural Science".

(7) Management is a science and an art—Management is considered to be a science because it has
an organised body of knowledge which contains certain universal truths. It is called an art because
managing requires certain skills which arc the personal possession of the managers.

(8) Intangible Force—Managerial ability is intangible force; it is a social skill which cannot be seen
with the eyes but it is evidenced by the quality and level of the organisation.
