UK-based University of Southampton’s Electronics and Computer Science (ECS) School, whichis the only leading research school in the UK to have integrated Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, has launched a new MSc programme in Computer Science. According to QS World Rankings 2012, University of Southampton is among the top three universities in the UK for computer sciences and IT.
The course is of one year duration andallows students to choose modules from more specialist programmes in Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Signal Processing, Software Engineering, and Web Science &Technology. In Semester 1, students can cover the foundations of a number of these specialist areas, and for other taught subjects one can choose specialist modules to deepen their understanding in one or more of these areas.
Computer Science students from University of Southamptoncan get to explore a wide range of career opportunity ranging from being a developer in the software industry to consultants, project managers, testing and support, or technical specialists. These roles support a variety of sectors, such as banking and finance, consumer electronics, defence, engineering, entertainment, insurance, power generation, telecommunications, and television as well as larger multinationals. Many students also go on to work for small to medium enterprises (SMEs), including start-ups.
Students are required to have at least 70% aggregate in their undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a related field. English language requirements are set at IELTS 6.5 with no less than 6 in any component. All individuals are selected and treated on their relative merits and abilities in line with the University's Equal Opportunities Policy. The annual fee for the programme is £17,750. The programme commences in September 2014. Early enquiries and applications will be encouraged.
