Ph.D/FPM at IIMs

I would like to know about the Fellow programme In Management (FPM) course (equivalent to Ph.D.) conducted by the Indian institutes of Management (IIMs). I completed MCA in 2007. Please let me know whether I am eligible to apply for this course.

Students are required to take the Common Admission Test (CAT) of IIMs or GMAT/ GRE/ GATE/ UGC- JRF for some of the specific areas.

The JJM Kozhikode (wwwiimk.ac.in) had an exciting start with its doctoral programme - FPM. Areas of specialisation offered here are information technology and systems, marketing, organizational behaviour and human resource, quantitative methods and operations management and strategic management
A Fellow participant is normally expected to complete the programme in four years. However, one can submit the draft thesis anytime after the completion of three years.
Admission to FPM will be based on academic qualification, performance in the qualifying examination, personal interview and work experience. Applicants will be assessed for their intellectual abilities and research aptitude.
One should have any one of the following qualifications:
Postgraduate Degree in any discipline including MA, M.Sc., M.Com, MBA, MCA, M.Tech., etc with at least 55 per cent marks or equivalent grade. Professional qualifications such as CA. ICWA and CS with at least 50 per cent marks.
Professional qualifications such as MBBS / LLB with at least 55 per cent marks; engineering degrees such as B.Tech./BE with at least 60 per cent marks.

Those appearing for the final examinations can also apply; but their final selection will be subject to successful completion of the requirement. Those who are applying for
FPM should have a valid test score not over two years from the date of application in any of the following tests - CAT conducted by IIMs, GMAT/ GRE, UGC/ CSIR-JRF and GATE.
Short-listed students will be called for personal interview at IIM Kozhikode and will be assessed for their intellectual capabilities and research aptitude as well as their interest in the management discipline.
The course at Kozhikode is fully residential The course work will be completed in the first 2 years. A participant is expected to spend a total of 100 hours on each full course, including 30 hours of class-room sessions. Up to 20 per cent of the courses offered during the first year will be FPM - specific Rest of the first year course will be common with the Postgraduate Programme (PGP). The subjects to be taught during the first year are organisational behaviour, managerial communication, management accounting, micro; economics, quantitative methods, marketing .management, it concepts in management, business ethics, financial management, operations management, operations research, business laws, environmental management, human resource management, the Indian economy; the philosophy of management and statistical methods in data analysis management pedagogy.
The following are the second year common compulsory courses: evolution, philosophy, process and methodology of research; econometric application in research; software applications in research; quantitative research; strategic management
A Fellow participant's research activities will commence with a pre-thesis dissertation in the second year. The satisfactory completion of the pre-thesis dissertation will be followed by a comprehensive viva voce to -m be conducted by the Research Advisory Committee of the Fellow participant The student will start the main thesis research for the Fellow title after satisfactorily completing the comprehensive viva voce. The institute may also arrange placement opportunities.
The FPM programme has several important features. The participants will not be required to pay tuition and other related fees. They will be provided with a fellowship to cover their living and related expenses All Indian residents joining the programme will be given fellowship. The top performers among the fellow participants will be given an additional merit- based fellowship is provided per month from the second year onwards. Contingency grant is also available to each fellow participant for the entire four-year period.
