The minimum qualification required for admission to the urban and regional planning and housing specializations is a Bachelors degree (or equivalent) in architecture, civil engineering or planning or a Masters degree (or equivalent) in geography, economics or sociology from a recognized university or institution. The minimum qualification required for admission to the environmental planning specialization is a Bachelors degree (or equivalent) in architecture, civil engineering or planning.
The admissions are conducted on the basis of entrance tests conducted by the university to which these colleges are affiliated or on the basis of merit. Some institutes such as the Institute of Town Planners also require work experience. In these cases, the candidate should be working in an organization or department, which is directly engaged in work relating to town planning
