While graduation in the commerce stream is a prerequisite for a postgraduate degree, anyone who has passed his or her Class-12 examinations can join a graduate level course. Most management institutes also call for entrance examinations such as Common Admission Test (CAT), Xavier Admission Test (XAT), Symbiosis National Aptitude Test (SNAP), etc. These tests are designed to test the aptitude of the candidates, specifically their reasoning, logic, and analytical skills. As the competition is very stiff, it is advisable to prepare for these entrance examinations before six months of applying. There are various coaching institutes, such as Institute of Management Studies (IMS), that help students prepare for the same by conducting special courses, and aptitude books are also available for studying and reference purposes.
