Induction follows placement Induction consists of the task of introducing or orienting the new employee to the company. When a candidate is finally selected, he is issued the appointment letter and is asked to join the organisation. Induction is a follow-up action of hiring and concerned with the problem of introducing or orienting a new employee to the organisation. Rather than leaving a new employee to stumble his way, it is much better to properly and systematically introduce him to the company, its philosophy, rules, objectives etc. After this general introduction, the new employee is oriented by the supervisor to his job and to his fellow workers. A complete induction also consists of a follow up after a few weeks to ascertain how well the new employee has adjusted himself with the job and environment.
According to Billimoria "Induction is a technique by which a new employee is rehabilitated into the changed surroundings and introduced to the practices, policies and purposes of the organisation." In other words, induction is a welcoming process —the idea is to welcome a newcomer, make him feel at home and generate in him a feeling that his own job, however small, is meaningful and has significance as a part of the total organisation.
