Time study is a technique which observes and records the time required to do each detailed element of an industrial operation. It determines the time in which the work ought to have been done. Time study may be defined as the art of observing and measuring the time required to do the several parts of a given operation. This helps in determining fair work for a particular period. According to Alford and Beauty "Time study is defined as a searching scientific analysis of methods and equipment used of planned in doing a piece of work, development in practical detail of the best way of doing it and determination of the time required."
In short, time study is an accurate analysis of the time required to perform an operation or some part thereof with a view to set standard of time for doing a job. It involves all the features of motion study and includes, in addition, time element also.
