Explain the relationship between job satisfaction and productivity.

There are two good studies on this subject:
(1) Productivity, supervision and Morale in an office situation by Katz, Maccoby and Morse.
(2) Satisfaction in the White collar Job by Morse.
In both the studies it was found that those groups which were more satisfied with their jobs, the company and their pay and job status were not necessarily those which were most productive. Job- satisfaction is one of the important determinant of morale. More job satisfaction means high morale which may be related to higher productivity. The general opinion is that job satisfaction results in higher productivity. If his job satisfaction increases there is an improvement in both the quality and quantity of production.
