PGDM : Post Graduate Diploma in Management

MBA - Master of Business Administration.

If you have a MBA degree you can proudly proclaim that you are a post graduate but in case of PGDM you are a diploma holder in a post graduate course.Otherwise, PGDM is equivalent to MBA.

The advantage of a MBA degree over PGDM are :

1. You can opt for govt jobs mainly PSU where MBA degree is required

2. You can do a PhD if you have MBA degree

Now does that mean someone having a PGDM cannot do PhD ?

Yes he/she can. In IIMs there is a course called FPM (Fellowship Program in Management) which is equivalent to Phd.

When can someone get MBA degree ?

If you are taking admission in an university like Christ, Alliance,Calcutta University etc then you will get a MBA degree.

But if you take admission in any autonomous college that includes the IIMs then you will get PGDM.

Best of Luck !

MBA is a full-time degree program that extends over 3 years. On the other hand, PGDM is a one-year diploma program offered by ITM University and the likes. You may visit the institute website and know more about pgdm course fees and other details. Consult your seniors to know more about such courses.
