A group has four characteristics:
(1) Common motive conducive to group interaction i.e., individual members of the group possess at best one common goal.
(2) Differential effects of the interaction on individual group members i.e., each member of the group may be influenced in a different way as the result of leadership.
(3) A group structure with a hierarchical status system i.e. some type of leader follower relationships develop.
(4) Standardisation of norms of behaviour are established which members are expected to follow.
