Leadership is essentially informal process while domination is the result of forcible assumptions of control and authority by one person over the will and affairs of other person. Domination is generally the result of coercion or under influence. Leadership is generated from the group while domination is the imposition of authority and power over the group.
Leadership is also different from headship or managership also leadership in a broader concept than headship. Every time a person attempts to influence the behaviour of someone else—whether for achieving his personal goals or organisational goals—he is engaged in leadership behaviour. A person is engaged in headship or managership only when he is trying to influence people for accomplishing organisational goals. If he is trying to influence others for achieving personal goals he is not acting as a head or manager though he may be acting as a leader. Moreover, the authority of a head or manager depends upon the formal- structure. But the leader's power does not depend on his formal position; it depends on his ability to influence his men who are willing to accept his directions.
