I was going through the IISc. website for admissions at http://www.iisc.ernet.in/admissions/
They have two programs: Research Program and Integrated PhD program. The research program also seems to be known as PhD program as I found in their math website: http://math.iisc.ernet.in/degprog.htm
It seems Math PhD program is a less intensive course as it requires an eligibility of second class in the qualifying course (Bachelors or Masters). The course completion requires taking a minimum of 12 credits. However, Integrated PhD program requires first class in the qualifying course and 48 credits.
Could someone please explain why PhD program's requirements are so less? What is the difference between the two and which course would be better to take?
