UGC NET Exam

Hi,
I'm new to this forum.I came to know about Net Exam few months back.Please tell me about this exam.One more thing,i'm currently working in Private Computer Organization as a Software Engineer.

I did my MCA in 2008.I want to know the following:
1) can i apply for the exam.
2) I'm basically from Comp.sci Dept?So is this neccessary to attend Physical sci or Chemical sci papers.

Please clarify my doubts.
