NTSE – National Talent Search Examination was started in 1963 by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). It was conducted to find brilliant students who want to pursue higher education in Social Studies and Science streams.
NTSE Examination pattern:
This examination is conducted at two levels:
- 1st Level: State-level talent search examination
- 2nd Level: National Level Talent Search Examination.
The State Level Talent Search Exam is conducted by 29 States/07 UTs for all students studying in Class 10th. The students clearing the 1st Level are eligible to appear for stage II examination conducted by NCERT.
This is an offline examination which has 2 exam papers i.e. Mental Aptitude Test (MAT) and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). Each Question Paper is of a duration of 120 minutes. The medium of the examination is English and Hindi. There are 100 Questions in each level of the examination. There is no negative marking for wrong answers.
Eligibility Criteria:
- The candidate must be an Indian national.
- The candidate must be studying in class 10 in a recognized private or government school in India.
- Unemployed candidates below the age of 18, studying in class 10 from open or distance learning are also fit to apply.
- States/UTs may lay down some more conditions such as minimum qualifying marks in previous class, age limit etc. which needs to be taken care before applying for the stage 1 examination.
- Indian Students studying Abroad can directly apply for Stage 2 of NTSE exam.
The Qualifying percentage is 40 in General and 32 for SC/ST.
The aim of NTSE scheme is to award capable students pursuing education in Science and Social Studies stream with scholarships to assist them in their education.
