Gurukul Senior Scholarship
The Programme
A unique 11-week, advanced leadership programme at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Gurukul is the British Government's flagship scholarship programme for rising leaders from all parts of Indian economic, social and political life. It was launched in 1997 to mark 50 years of India's independence.
Each year, the Chevening Gurukul Scholarships enable twelve exceptional men and women to participate in an intensive exploration of the challenges of top leadership in a globalising world through a Programme involving academic studies, field visits and seminars, debates with practitioners, and individual projects of direct personal relevance. The Gurukul Programme analyses ideas and practices of globalisation, their impact, the responses they have stimulated, and the implications both for leadership and for India. It is based in London, one of the main global financial centres, at the London School of Economics and Political Science, a world-class university noted for pioneering excellence in socio-economic research.
The Programme examines new ideas about leadership and globalisation from diverse disciplines and sources and encourages analysis of the implications of those ideas for careers and leadership in India. It provides unique opportunities for Scholars to test their own hypotheses with policy makers and practitioners as well as with leading academics and thinkers. Throughout the 11-week Programme each Scholar, advised by an LSE supervisor, works on a personal Project: involving research, interviewing, drafting and presenting report. The process gives each scholar an unique opportunity to build a network of UK peers.
