I am studying for B.Tech Mechanical Engineering in IIT Madras, in 6th semester. Can I apply for GATE examination 2013 ?

Most probably No, Pre-final year students are NOT eligible to write GATE 2013. So only students in 7th and 8th Sem. of B.Tech courses are only eligible to write GATE exam. As per GATE prospectus, year of qualification cannot be greater than 2013 and he/ she should be in 4th year or Completed 4th year.

when are you completing your course? if it is in 2013 and you are entering into your 7th semester and your principal is willing to give you certificate you can apply this year itself
