The University of Sheffield’s Management School invites applications for its newly launched MSc in Entrepreneurship programme. This 12 month programme aims to bring together theoretical and applied aspects of entrepreneurship in different contexts.

The University of Sheffield Management School is focused on ensuring that the programmes they offer successfully prepare students for whichever career path they choose. The University’s academics and business engagement team work closely with practitioners from a wide range of industries and organisations to ensure the proper understanding of the professional, commercial and political demands of the world in which the graduates work. With an increasing number of graduates choosing to pursue an entrepreneurial career path, the Management School has responded by developing a new MSc in Entrepreneurship to prepare students for the unique challenges that this entails.

The University’s Management School, which is rated among the UK’s top 20 Management Schools, is among the top 1% of business schools worldwide with triple accreditations from AMBA, EQUIS and AACSB, an honour that has been bestowed on only 58 Schools worldwide. The school provides students pursuing this 1-year full time programme with course content that has been drawn upon the expertise of a range of current entrepreneurs to provide an insight into the theory and practice of transforming business acumen, financial investment and innovation into a successful product or service. Applicants will also have the opportunity to explore their own ideas and develop entrepreneurial skills through a student project which could translate into starting an own venture.

The programme modules in the course include Theory and Concepts in Entrepreneurship, Corporate Entrepreneurship, Social and Alternative Entrepreneurship, Entrepreneurial Venture Creation, Entrepreneurial Economies, Entrepreneurship and Change Management, Entrepreneurship Research Methods, Accounting and Financial Management and Strategic Management. The University’s Management School also has two dedicated careers advisers available at the School with specialist knowledge of opportunities in business and management.

Moreover, successful high profile entrepreneurs from across the globe are taking an active part in helping design the content of the programme. The aim is to develop a new modified and advanced course to prepare the students for the unique challenges from the field. One such distinguished contributor to the programme is Captain Gopinath, a leading Indian entrepreneur and founder of the first low cost airline Air Deccan in India. His input on how to turn an innovative idea into a profitable business has been incorporated into the new MSc in Entrepreneurship. The programme takes a broad perspective on entrepreneurship providing knowledge and skills useful to start-ups to business owners and to employees by focusing on how to think entrepreneurially and be entrepreneurial in approach – whatever one’s role may be.

Holders of a three year bachelor degree with a minimum of 60% or first class from a reputable university will be considered for direct admission or holders of a four year bachelor degree in science, engineering or technology degrees with a minimum of 55% or second class from a reputable university combined with a desire to learn about the principles and practices of entrepreneurship. Prior management or entrepreneurship experience is not mandatory. IELTS is the preferred test of language. One needs an IELTS score of 7, with at least 6 in all the component tests. If one is unable to sit the IELTS, then one should take TOEFL. The fee for the programme is £16,500. The programme commences in September 2013 and the deadline to apply for the same is June 2013. The University also guarantees scholarship worth £2000 which is applicable to this course.
