UK based Loughborough University’s School of the Arts invites applications for its Post Graduate programme, MA in Studio Ceramics: Methodologies and Practice. The School of the Arts at the University is a leading institution of art education in the UK, providing specialist programmes.
The one year programme offered by the School provides an opportunity to study Studio Ceramics in depth, to advance individual skills, knowledge and understanding in creative, practical, and technical aspects of the subject within a workshop and studio environment. With its core modules covering topics like ‘Challenging Traditions’, ‘Material and Process Research’, ‘Research Methods and Methodologies’ and ‘Practice, Research & Entrepreneurial Skills’, assessment is conducted on the basis of an appraisal of studio outcomes, related visual and technical research, written material, and professional and entrepreneurial skills in relation to the final project outcomes.
The School offers well-equipped studios with a wide range of gas, electric, oil, and wood fired (anagama) kilns, salt firing and raku are also accommodated, and an outdoor (covered) area for experimental firing processes and kiln building. There is a well-stocked glaze laboratory and raw materials storage and equipment for the composition and processing of all types of clay body and glazes.
To enroll for the course, candidates will normally be required to have a minimum degree score of 65% but exceptional circumstances like an honours degree in an aligned subject or appropriate additional work experience will also be considered. The course commences from October 2014 and the last date to apply is February 2014. Students who wish to apply for the programme should submit an application form, an electronic PDF portfolio of recent work, and a 1000 word supporting statement contextualising their practice. The fee structure for the course is £13,750.
